The warning to Coinbase that it’s breaking securities laws may signal the long-awaited attack on crypto’s foundations but also may set up a court fight that finally answers questions.

The warning comes one day after Coinbase disclosed the receipt of a Wells Notice from the U.S. securities regulator.

The SEC issued Coinbase a Wells notice on Wednesday, informing the company that it is planning future enforcement action against it.

The FCA began taking action against illegal crypto ATMs last month, inspecting sites in the northern city of Leeds.
